The wonderful Wunda Chair!
As we launch our new Studio Induction Sessions and Pilates Studio Circuit class we thought we would introduce some of the equipment that we use.
Just like the Reformer another piece of resistance equipment in the studio is the ‘Wunda Chair’ it is thought Joseph Pilates called it this as he felt it does wonders for the whole of the body. Designed and adapted by Pilates himself from a chair to support and challenge the body in many ways. The Pilates chair is basically a box with one side that can be pressed down against the resistance of springs, like a large pedal. The pedal portion is divided into two parts that can be worked independently.
There are so many exercises that we can perform on the Wunda Chair, we can stand on it, sit on it, lie on it; on our front and sideways. It is a fantastic way to improve balance and core strength. Many of the exercises also incorporate upper body work, leg strength and alignment. if you have done Pilates before you will recognise and be very familiar with many of the exercises and movements performed on the Wunda Chair.
The Wunda Chair is an essential part of any Pilates Studio, we always begin by introducing it to you slowly with simple exercises. Once you feel confident and have mastered the basics then you can start to perform some of the more challenging exercises.
If you would like to come and try the Wunda Chair our next Pilates Studio Induction is 23rd march at 4pm or alternatively join our Pilates Studio Circuit Class.
