Testimonials
A few weeks ago I was treated by Jo-Ann Ferguson for a sports massage. She is an excellent physio and has always given me the best sport massages. As an international hockey player I realise the importance of good treatments to keep my body in good shape for the next training session or tournament and with Jo-Ann I know that I will always get a high quality of treatment every time I visit her. That is why when I am back home in Northern Ireland she is my chosen physio and without her I’m not sure I could have trained as hard as I did this summer.

After a reoccurring groin injury I kept getting while fencing, it was recommended that I go to PhysioworksNI. After a couple of sessions with Jo-Ann and being given different exercises to stretch and strengthen the surrounding area I recovered very quickly and haven’t had any trouble with the area since. I am now attending again with a back problem and right from the first session I have noticed a huge improvement. Without the treatment I have received I would be unable to compete at an international standard and have achieved the results I have over the last year.

I run with Lagan Valley AC, and have suffered on and off with calf pain periodically in training for a few years, when I increased my running mileage or intensity for a big race. Visits to other physiotherapists, sports massage, even orthotics made no real difference. This year I have been concentrating more on my fell running so running up mountains soon meant the pain was back, and quickly got to the stage where I had to stop in races. I went to Debbie Matchett, owner of Physioworks, whom I knew was a runner, so hoped Debbie’s interest in the sport would be an added benefit.
Debbie quickly identified two key areas that I needed to work on, my back and calves. I received ‘myofascial massage’ for suspected compartment syndrome and was shown a few simple back and stretching exercises to do at home, along the dreaded foam roller! I noticed a difference after the first session with Debbie, who really understood my needs as a runner. Within a few of weeks of treatment, combined with the home exercises, I had no pain or tightness in my legs and felt so much better in my running. Thanks to Debbie I was able to run properly in races, in fact much faster than I had ran before! One such race was to pick the NI team for the Commonwealth Mountain running championships 2011 and am delighted to say I got a place! I can honestly say this would not have been possible without the help at Physioworks.

I own a shop and cafe and signed up for the self-defence class in order to feel safer whilst working alone. I really enjoyed the class, it was great fun and I learnt a lot more than I thought possible in the time scale. I notice the confidence the class has given when I am opening up early morning or closing up alone at night, I am less anxious and much more aware of my personal safety. Definitely going back for more in September. This class should be compulsory!!

I only came along to the self-defence class to keep my sister company and wasn’t at all sure of what to expect. I was very pleasantly surprised at how much I really enjoyed it and at how much I learnt over the course of the 5 weeks. The Krav Maga techniques that Jim taught us where really easy to learn and to remember and I have found that I feel much more confident when out and about on my own. I have already signed up for the September course and would highly recommend it to anyone.

I picked up an ankle injury playing football which got worse after running the marathon in May. Alan took me through a course of Physio by working on the affected area then moving onto strengthening the ligament and joint. I was able to return to football in time for the pre-season. Alan was very helpful and gave me exercises to do to further strengthen and improve my confidence in my ankle again.

I signed up for the Self-Defence course in May as I was heading off to Uganda in July with my School to work with street kids and I loved every minute of it. I didn’t need any of my new skills on my African trip but I learnt many simple self defence moves that I will always know if I ever got into any sort of danger or trouble. Have rebooked for September and can’t wait for it to start.

I was suffering from intense jaw pain due to grinding my teeth when I started attending Physioworks NI. After my second session with Lesley I noticed a great improvement in the pain and after only 4 sessions it had completely gone. I now attend once a month to keep it away.

I'm a reasonably fit 53 year old woman and have been going to Debbie’s Pilates class regularly for over 2 years. The classes have improved my body posture and increased my flexibility greatly. They've also helped to prevent aches and pains from old sport injuries. I've even managed to persuade my husband to join the men only class to help his back problem. Not an easy task, but after 2 months he won't give up his Pilates class for anything!

I attend the classes, not only for the health benefits, but for the "craic" with the other girls. It provides a very friendly, relaxed and uncompetitive atmosphere.

Following back surgery I had been advised, by my consultant, to visit a Chartered Physiotherapist. During my recovery I chanced to meet a gentleman who had previously undergone similar surgery. He highly recommended PhysioworksNI to me so I booked an appointment.

I found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. They took time to listen and discussed the best way forward for me. Their high level of knowledge was very evident.

With the aid of skeletal models, it was explained to me how my bones and muscles were behaving or misbehaving. This knowledge helped me understand the healing process and what could eventually be achieved.

I am very grateful that I was introduced to PhysioWorksNI as I made a successful, pain free, recovery.

Unfortunately, due to a shoulder injury, I have found myself back under the care of the team. Although I have been placed in the hands of a different team member I have been experiencing the same high level of expertise.

The Northern Ireland U17 Netball Squad were delighted to have the support of physiotherapist Alan Thomson at the recent European Championships held in Lisburn. We contacted Alan after he was recommended to us by a Senior player on our full National Squad and he certainly lived up to and indeed exceeded our expectations in the role. His expertise was clearly evident when dealing with numerous current and new injuries. He managed to maintain our players in such condition that they were all fit to play on the last day of the championships - a massive feat considering the number of muscle strains, blisters, sprained ankles and backaches.

His technical ability shone most when called upon to go on court during the matches. Time constraints in Netball means that the physio has only 2 minutes to assess and treat the injury. Any subsequent injury has only 30 seconds for the physio to work with, so decision making and treatment needs to be swift. Alan remained the calmest person on the court at this time and dealt with everything thrown at him with ease.

As well as providing us with his physio skills, Alan became a part of our team, his support from the bench, his motivational chats with the squad during their treatments and his friendly yet professional approach made him a welcome addition to our management team. We have already recommended him to our governing body for future competitions and look forward to working with him again.

Pilates was recommended to me by Jo who was treating me for lower back pain. The drop in class for men suited me perfectly. Not knowing anything about it I thought it might be relaxation and breathing. How wrong was I! While it is relaxing, it is also a great workout and leaves me feeling great for the rest of the day. My back pain is getting better my posture has improved and it has helped in all sport I take part in. I’m even seeing the start of a six pack for the first time ever.
